Someone is poisoning Gotham City...and Batman must find the fiend before the city’s population is slaughtered. Also, Bruce Wayne has a date...with Vicki Vale.

A 13-year-old named Mike Dell is working on a project for school, centering around waste management. As part of the project, Mike follows his garbage man father around a block downtown. As the team collects trash, a gang of "rival" garbage men working for Krudco assault the workers for being on their turf, catching Bruce Wayne's attention as he has lunch with Vicki Vale nearby. Shell-shocked, Mike's father sends Mike home for the day and continues his route. Later that evening, Mike follows his father to the local landfill by riding on the top of his garbage truck. Suspicious, Batman heads to the same landfill. The Krudco goons once again attack Mike's father, pulling a gun on him. Mike hastily jumps up to help his father, but gets fatally shot in the chest by one of the goons. Batman leaps out of the shadows and tackles the goons, only to find Mike's father grieving over his son's body. Not knowing how to begin to console the father, Batman simply fades back into the night.
